Lizann Porter
Lizann Porter is a member of the Wolf Clan and was born in Ft. St. John, BC. Her family moved back to Watson Lake, Yukon where she was raised and went to school.
Lizann has always been a strong voice for her people and was elected on band council where she held the portfolio for Education and Justice. She advocates for women, children and elders to have better lives. Lizann has a passion for education and has been on school council for two terms, where she advocates for change. Another commitment for Lizann is being part of the working group developing a Kaska National Constitution. She is making sure women and children’s equality is included in the governance for Kaska Nations.
She loves to sew and does many different crafts that she has learned from her mother, grandmother and aunties.
Lizann harvests seasonal medicines, picks berries and goes to fish camp each year. She has four boys and has now become a very proud grandmother of a little girl.
Lizann’s vision for the future is to be part of creating a holistic community with all people strong as one. This goal is for children now and for all future generations. We need everyone involved and working together.
